The View from the Front Deck!

July 2019

"The End is Near....Already!"

We are getting to the end of another successful tournament season.  The final tournament at Boyd Lake will determine AOY in both categories and will finalize the Top 10.  Some interesting contests going on in both Boater and Co-Angler divisions.

After Boyd, we are off to Big Mac for the Championship.

We have accomplished a lot this year and still have a couple of things to decide.  We need to determine the tournament sign up criteria that has been proposed and we also need to decide on the Top 10 payout process.  Discussions on both items will be held at the August meeting.

The tournament rules review committee is also getting together to determine if we need to make changes to keep up with the club going to a Pro/Am format and any other items they deem important.

The plan is to have those changes in front of the group by the end of the year.

So, we still have some work to do in 2019.

Until we see you at the meeting, Aug.5th, be safe!

June 2019

It's hard to believe, but we have passed the half-way point in the 2019 tournament season.  The angler of the year race is sorting out and will be fun to watch over the last two events.  There will also be a lot of changes in the Top 10 as the throw-outs start to come into play.  The Santa Rosa tournament didn't disappoint anyone and a lot of fish were caught.  Great wins for Connor Santos on the boater side and Robert Morris on the co-angler side.

Conchas Lake, NM is next up, and according to reports, the lake is “on fire,” so a lot of good limits should be brought in.  We have reserved some houses at the lake for lodging, but we need anglers to sign up at the meeting to insure we have space.  No guarantees if you come late.

At the July meeting we will clarify some language for a motion that was passed at the June meeting concerning "3 in a boat and boaters fishing alone."  There will also be discussion on late sign up restrictions and how we handle late parings.  Should be interesting and could have long term implications for the club.

On the state TBF side, congratulations to our own Brian Wiese for taking the Co-Angler side at the recent semi-final at Navajo.  Brian will now go to nationals as co-angler representing Colorado.

CBN (BASS) news is that the 2020 State Team Qualifier will be held at Table Rock Lake,  June 14-19, 2020.  Details at the meeting.

A special hats off to our new Tournament Director Brandon Robledo.  First year on the job and it sure feels like everything is under control.  Good job, Brandon!

Final two lakes are Conchas and then Boyd.  Then on to McConaughy, NE for the Championship.  Check your schedules and make it to these if you can.

Until then, see you on the water!

May 2019

The season is in progress and the competition is heating up. It should be fun to see how this turns out. Next up Santa Rosa, New Mexico. My understanding is that Santa Rosa is fishing well so I expect to see a bunch of 3-4 pounders on the cards.

Don't worry about where to stay because Brandon has already reserved enough rooms for all anglers. Details will be given out at the next meeting.

At the last meeting I gave a presentation on the clubs financial situation based on payouts for both Boaters and co-anglers. Based on the numbers its apparent that we will not be able to give out jerseys to all top 10 anglers. We give trophies to the top 3 on each side/tournament. The BOD is open to suggestions for year end awards so expect that to be an agenda item going forward.

The other item that we want to talk about is how we handle tournament situations where we have either more boaters or non-boaters. Right now our policy is no angler left on the bank even if we have to fish 3 to a boat. And boaters fish alone and have fish verified by other anglers. Lets make sure we are all on the same page with this situation.

Next meeting is June 3rd. Bass Pro Shop is moving out meeting space to the meeting area behind the bar. Look for us there!

March 13th, 2019

“Almost Time”

Before anything else I would like to thank Mike Garrett for handling the March 4th meeting. Also thanks to Malina and Brandon for great backup.

Sorry we missed the meeting, but Joe and I were doing important field research on the condition of the whales and sailfish around Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.  I am happy to report that "Yes," they are still there.

Membership:  Welcome back aboard to Brian Wiese and Brian White.  Look forward to fishing with you both!

Tournaments:  The first team event is March 23, weather permitting.  That will be followed by the BASS Colorado State Team Qualifier to be held April 1st – April 5th at Lake Sam Rayburn, TX.  Our first club draw event will be April 20th, which is just around the corner.

We have recently gotten set up with Square so we can accept credit cards for club draw events entry fees and also club membership fees.  If you would like to take advantage of that service there will be a small surcharge added to cover the cc fee we must pay.

Special thanks to Frank Bianchi and John Robertson for the El Salto presentation.  I am sorry I missed it.

FINALLY:  Just another reminder that the April meeting has been moved to April 8th, because of the BASS State Team Qualifier.  Please mark your calenders.

Hope to see you at the first team event.

Until then, Be Safe.

"Moving Forward!"

We just finished the second meeting of the year and it feels like the new Board of Directors is really getting settled in. Thanks to the BOD for their efforts.

We covered a lot of ground at the meeting including the formal presentation of the 2019 Club Tournament Schedule and the roll out of the ½ day team events. Please check the schedule on the web site and mark your calendars so you don't miss any of these events.

Thanks to Rod Allen, President of the Colorado TBF, for an informative presentation on the Colorado TBF and the road it provides to national tournament competition. That was timely because we just received notice that our club has enough members to again be a club in good standing with the national TBF. Anyone who is interested in joining that side of PPBM please let me know.

Our membership continues to grow with the addition of nine members to our roster. Good to see a couple of veteran members at the meeting. Welcome back Bob M. and Derek P.  It was good to see you!  Thanks to all who renewed their membership and a special welcome to the brand new members: Tim McGinnis, Dawson Wisner, Ian Love and Brandon Cook. We look forward to fishing with you guys!

"IMPORTANT NOTICE:"  The April meeting has been moved to April 8th because of a conflict with the State Team Qualifier. Mark your calendar now. We are currently signing up competitors for the STQ to be held March 31st – April 5th at Sam Rayburn, Texas. If you need an application, contact Joe Conway.

The March meeting program presenter will be Gary Bell, who will talk about their fishing trip to El Salto, Mexico. That should be fun and interesting!

Until we meet again, please be safe!

January 8th, 2019

First meeting of the year started off great, in spite of the fact that we were competing against the 2019 CFP National Championship. I want to thank all who attended the meeting.

We actually doubled our membership numbers, so getting caught up with where we should be.

We covered a lot of topics and introduced a few new features. Thanks to all for your contribution to the discussion.  I am glad everybody liked the new window stickers. Remember extras are $3.00 each.  If you don't want to wait until the next meeting to get some more, let me know and I will arrange something to get them to you.

Thanks to Mike C, Andy H, and David N, for signing up with TBF, that will get us legal with them and we can move forward.

Also thanks to Bob R, Carey G, and Mike R, for volunteering to be on the tournament selection committee.

We plan on getting the lakes and dates finalized by the middle of the month and when completed will get the schedule up on the web site.  I will also send out an email with the tournament schedule to all active members.

Next month we will have Rod Allen, State President for TBF, make a presentation and will go into detail about both TBF and CBN regarding who they are and what they offer to us.

There will also be a short discussion about the Lakes and dates picked, why we selected them, and what members can look forward to fishing the circuit.

Until the next meeting, everyone be safe.
